Mini-printer specialist, Able Systems, has introduced a new battery operated printer for use in receipt printing and bar-code ticketing applications. The latest addition to Able Systems' Ap800 range of high-speed, robust printers, the Ap862-B also features the new 'speed-feed' semi-automatic paper loading mechanism for convenience and ease of use.
Specifically for retail applications the printer has been developed to produce barcodes using the standard Epson ESC/POSTM protocol. Using clever software, encoding of the barcodes is performed within the printer and users can specify the width and height of the barcodes, with both default and custom settings available.
The Ap862-B also offers compatibility with part pre-printed paper, the new printer has an opto-sensor within the mechanism for paper registration. This makes it ideal for use in part pre-printed receipt and bar-code ticketing applications as it will accurately and automatically move the paper to pre-set distances.
Measuring just 104mm(W) by 158mm(D) by 82mm(H), the AP862-B comes complete with a rechargeable and replaceable battery pack which slides easily into the underside of the printer. The addition of a spare battery pack provides hours of continual usage.
Using a fixed head thermal dot line printing mechanism the printer's speed is typically 40mm per second. Its ergonomic design makes it ideal for use as a stand alone unit and access to the paper roll is provided by simply opening the top cover of the unit. Also, as the mechanism is thermal no messy ink ribbon is required.
With a MCBF (mean cycle between failure) of five million lines, the Ap862-B offers excellent reliability. The easy to change battery pack and paper roll, plus the 'speed-feed' paper loading mechanism all combine to provide a user-friendly and time saving product.
