Electronic Design Engineer

Northwich, Cheshire UK

We are looking for a driven, collaborative Electronic Design Engineer who would like to grow into independently working in a small multi-disciplinary team whilst making a major contribution to the development of Able’s future products.

Overall Job Duties:

Design, develop and maintain the electronic hardware for new and existing Able Systems products, with support
Contribute to the development of concepts for new products, by collaboration with colleagues as well as the generation of own new ideas

Specific Duties:

Responsible to the Head of Engineering and working alongside Product Design and Firmware/Software engineers Ensure the timely completion of electronics-based designs and tasks in a structured way
Expand their electronics, firmware/ software, and organisational skills towards a goal of independent project management
Work within limitations required for compliance to applicable statutory regulations and non-statutory approvals (e.g. UKCA, EU EMC, CE, LVD, CB, FCC, UL, CCC, etc)
Ensure full documentation of all work conducted, for future design reference, for manufacturing, and for QA system compliance

Electronic Design Engineer – Requirements
  • Bachelor’s degree in Electronic Engineering or related discipline (or equivalent experience)
  • Demonstrable experience of PCB design in KiCAD or similar ECAD software (university or personal projects are suitable)
  • Some experience operating standard electronic test and rework equipment – for example oscilloscopes, and soldering irons
  • Familiarity with programming / experience writing basic scripts (C / C++ / C#, Python)
Desirable Requirements:

Experience of the following would be extremely useful:

  • Schematic and PCB Design – 4+ layer designs
  • Design to EMC best practices
  • Electronic simulation (e.g. LTSpice)
  • Commissioning / debugging PCB prototypes designed by yourself or others
  • Basic software or firmware writing skills (C / C++ / C# / Python)
  • Good problem-solving skills and attention to detail
  • Strong written and verbal communication
  • Eagerness to work within a multidisciplinary team
  • Good organisation, planning and reliability
Able offers:
  • This position will attract a base salary of £28,000 – £38,000 plus benefits. However, we will keep an open mind to candidates that fall outside of this range either below or above.
    The package may also include a bonus relating to performance and other key indicators.

Senior Electronic Design Engineer

We are looking for a competent, experienced, professional Electronic Design Engineer who is able to work
independently in a small multi-disciplinary team to make a major contribution to the development of Able’s future
products.

Overall Job Duties:

Design, develop and maintain the electronic hardware and firmware for new and existing Able Systems products
Be responsible for, and actively contribute to, the development of concepts for new products, by collaboration with
colleagues as well as the generation of own new ideas.

Specific Duties:

Responsible to the Head of Engineering and working alongside Product Design and Firmware/Software engineers
Ensure the timely completion of the electronic aspects of development projects in a structured way
Work collaboratively with external design partners to meet project deadlines, if deemed necessary
Identify and ensure compliance with applicable statutory regulations and non-statutory approvals (e.g. UKCA, EU
EMC, CE, LVD, CB, FCC, UL, CCC, etc)
Ensure full documentation of all work conducted, for future design reference, for manufacturing, and for QA system
compliance

Senior Electronic Design Engineer – Requirements
  • Bachelor’s degree in Electronic Engineering or related discipline (or equivalent experience)
  • 3+ years’ experience of Schematic and PCB design (4+ layer using KiCAD or similar ECAD software)
  • Experience building, testing, and debugging prototypes and early production models
  • Skilled at operating standard electronic test and rework equipment including oscilloscopes, bus analysers,
    and SMD soldering tools
  • Basic software / firmware experience – for commissioning of hardware
Desirable Requirements:
  • Design for EMC and other relevant certifications (CE, UKCA, LVD, RED):
  • Experience of formal testing is highly desirable
  • Electronic simulation (e.g. LTSpice)
  • Implementation of various communication protocols:
    – USB 3, USB-PD
    – Bluetooth, WiFi
    – I2C, SPI, UART
  • Experience with:
    – STM32 Cortex M4 or similar
    – Li-ion battery charging and management
    – Mobile device design including switch mode power supply, digital/ analog signal conditioning, stepper motor control
  • Design of test equipment and procedures for high reliability production of volume parts
  • Software and firmware for real-time and mobile systems (C / C++ / C#, Python)
  • Source control (e.g. Git)
  • Experience of app development (Android, iOS, Windows app or other mobile applications)
  • Good problem solving skills, lateral thinking and attention to detail
  • Strong written and verbal communication
  • Experience working in a multidisciplinary team – good teamwork, organisation, planning and reliability
Able offers:
  • This position will attract a base salary of £40,000 – £48,000. However, we will keep an open mind to candidates
    that fall outside of this range either below or above.

Technical Support Engineer

Northwich, Cheshire, UK

We are looking for an energetic and personable professional to join our team in a junior role. This role covers technical support, sales support and application engineering so is ideal for a new graduate or someone hoping to transition roles.

Overall Job Duties:

Respond to technical support requests by phone & email.

Identify customer requirements and escalate complex tickets, as needed.

Support the sales team in developing new customers and orders, by recommending the most suitable products and answering technical queries.

Identify opportunities for new or bespoke products. Work closely with the sales and R&D teams to realise these products.

Specific Duties:

Responsible to the Chief Commercial Officer and working alongside the sales and engineering teams.

Ensure prompt responses to technical queries from customers and sales associates

Provide input on the creation & maintenance of technical documents such as datasheets, user guides, and website pages.

Assist the R&D team with specifying & sourcing accessories for products as required.

Support the production team in creating & maintaining test procedures, documentation, and software for product testing.

Keep up to date on new trends, technological advancements, and competitor products to ensure Able Systems products are as good as they can be.

Technical Support Engineer – Requirements

The successful candidate will be adaptable and keen to apply themselves to a wide range of projects. This role has opportunities for growth within technical sales or applications engineering, depending on the candidate’s strengths and preferences.

Specifically, they will need to be/have:

  • Experience in a Customer Facing or IT role.
  • A confident communicator both speaking and writing.
  • A power-user comfortable with PCs and tech in general.
  • Good problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
Desirable Requirements:

Experience with, or strong interest in, the following are especially desirable:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical and Electronic Engineering, Computer Science, or equivalent (or equivalent experience)
  • Basic software writing or scripting skills (e.g. Python / C# / Bash)
  • Experience using single-board computers or microcontrollers
